The Rock’n for Autism Awareness benefit event will be held Saturday, July 31 on the grounds of Mount Hope Estate & Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM. The event is designed to promote autism awareness and education about best practices, and provide a wonderful fun-filled evening for everyone to come enjoy food, drink and live musical entertainment, speakers and a variety of family-friendly and children’s activities, as well as, raffles for fabulous prizes! Happy Monday from the SpringHill Suites by Marriott Hershey Near The Park! That’s right we have a new, very fitting, name! Concerts are in full swing here in Hershey this summer, here’s some that may interest you! July 31st KISS will be in town rockin’ it out at Hersheypark Stadium! July 30th-August 1st the Broadway musical CATS will perform at the Hershey Theatre, August 4th brings O.A.R. at the Star Pavilion, August 5th is the new date for John Mayer at Hersheypark Stadium and the 6th brings in American Idol’s Daughtry at the Star Pavilion. Future performers include PARAMORE, Jonas Brothers, Rihanna and Kings of Leon! If you want to spice up your vacation with a little bit of music then this is the place to be! AACA Museum, Behind the Scenes Barbecue!

Saturday: Antique Automotive Club of America Museum, South Hanover Township

The Antique Automotive Club of America Museum will host a summer-style barbecue in its detail shop.

Join the museum for a Behind the Scenes Barbecue on Saturday, January 9th from 12 noon – 5 PM.

The AACA Museum will be hosting a summertime barbecue in the Museum’s detail shop! For a fee of $15.00 per person, guests can enjoy entrance into the Museum, and a behind the scenes barbecue in the detail shop — our ultimate garage!

Choose from a Pulled Pork sandwich, or a Beef Brisket Sandwich or a Smoked Chicken along with a side item, iced tea or lemonade. Additional food items and $2 draft beer will also be available for purchase. Visitors not on this package will not be permitted into the detail shop area.

Chocolate Scented Town

Want another reason to travel to Hershey, PA? Hershey is known as the “Sweetest place on earth”! After all, where else can you find a town that smells like chocolate at least twice a day. This is due to the way Hershey’s factory produces their chocolate. Milton Hershey decided that he did not want air conditioning installed in the rooms that stirred the chocolate. He was afraid the air conditioning would taint the smell and taste of his chocolate. So instead, Mr. Hershey installed air vents in these rooms which are opened twice a day to let out all of the heat, and the smell of chocolate, into the town.

Step right outside the door to SpringHill Suites Hershey and get a whiff of what the town truly has to offer.

An Interesting Fact About Hershey…

Hershey is a town full of rich history. For example, did you know that during WWII Milton Hershey was approached by the government to prduce a ration bar with enough vitamins and calories to sustain a soldier during the way? The goverment asked for such a bar that would not melt inextreme heat, weighed only about four ounces and contained 600 calories, and was not delicious enough for the solidiers to want to eat during an emergency. Mr. Hershey agreed and did just that. In fact, he halted all production of his chocolate bars and turned over his factory entirely to the production of the Hershey Field Ration-D bar. These bars were so successful, about 24 million were sold by the end of 1945.

ZooAmerica

My parents came to visit this weekend and stayed at SpringHill Suites, one of several hotels in Hershey. I was looking for something to do with them for a few hours and I knew they hadn’t been to a zoo since I was a kid, so we took them to ZooAmerica. I would have to say that my parents, who are in their late 60′s, enjoyed it as much as my 8 year old son.

There are approximately 75 different types of animals living in natural habitats at the Zoo. The animals all come from North America and range from snakes to buffalo. The plants growing at the Zoo also come from across North America and have signs letting you know what types they are as well.

Overall it was a great couple of hours with my family. I would recomend this to anyone who has a an hour or two to walk around. You can also take a picnic lunch along with you if you would like to spend more time outdoors!!

Halloween in Hershey

If you’re staying at the SpringHill Suites hotel in Hershey this October, you better beware!! There have been several sightings of ghosts, goblins, monsters, and even a princess or two haunting the halls and roaming through the lobby. Don’t worry though, they are only visiting for a short time while the Halloween fun is going on in the area!

Some of the things our visitors will be doing over the next couple of weekends will be: Hershey’s Trick-or-Treat Adventure starting at Hershey’s Chocolate World and continuing into HersheyPark, Trick-or-Treat Time Machine at The Hershey Story, and The Pumpkin Glow, Trick-or-Treat and Jack-O-Lantern Jamboree at the Hershey Gardens. Along with Hersheypark being open, guests can visit Creatures Of The Night at ZooAmerica all for one low price. When visiting the Zoo, remember to bring your flashlights along to better see the animals in their natural habitats.

2009 AACA Eastern Regional Fall Meet In Hershey

The 2009 AACA Eastern Regional Fall Meet is almost upon us! The entire town of Hershey is preparing for crowds that will be arriving next week. As you drive down HersheyPark Drive you see all the extra fencing going up for parking and soon the vendors trailers will be pulling in.

For those of you who are not familiar with what the AACA is, it is the Antique Automobile Club of America. Every fall they hold a meet here in Hershey, Pennsylvania. It consists of over 9,000 flea market spaces, over 1,000 car corral spaces and over 1,000 show cars. Visitors from all over the United States and many countries come to Hershey to see this event. Some of the most unique cars and hard to find parts can be found here in Hershey!

The 2009 Meet will start Wednesday October 7th and runs through Saturday October 10th. The hours are daily from 7:00 AM till dusk. Some of the special events going on during this time is the Night At The Museum Gala & Auction being held at the AACA Museum on Wednesday evening, Vintage Motor Cars of Hershey featuring over 100 vintage motor cars and lots of memorabilia items will be auctioned at the Hershey Lodge on Thursday, Race Car Condition Run on Friday, and Vehicle Judging on Saturday.
